Bob Betz was one of the original employees of Chateau St Michelle, starting with them in 1973. He was very influential in educational outreach and vineyard research and practice, leading the state as one of the first world-wide advocates for Washington Wine. He started Betz Family Winery in 1997 and in 2005 constructed the first purpose-built winery in Woodinville. Winery has never had a tasting room, and is strictly a production facility. Bob received his Master of Wine in 1998 and currently is the only MW making wine in the United States. His palate is incredible and he is truly one of the most knowledgeable and passionate "Wine Guys" in the world. Betz Family Winery is a limited production winery that makes just over 60,000 bottles of wine annually. The vast majority of our wine is sold to their members in private releases each year. Presently they have a 30 month wait list to be on their member-release list. They make nine different wines, 6 of which are distributed internationally. Bob Betz works with a single-minded goal of crafting compelling red wines with individual character that are approachable and age-worthy, and which showcase Washington as a distinguished wine region of the world. Estate vineyard and cellar practices are the most focused and labor-intensive in the state and we feel this attention to detail shows in the final wine. They Co-Farm some of the greatest vineyard blocks in Washington and these vineyards and their respective personalities form the core of what they do.
