Château la Diligente is estate of approximately 10 ha has two different terroirs: one on the Puisseguin limestone plateau, producing Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes with striking minerality and remarkable elegance, and the other on the clayey slopes of the Listrac area, where the Merlot fruit is powerful and concentrated. The grapes are harvested at the peak of ripeness and the two wines are blended to reach a remarkable combination of strength and elegance. Famed Right Bank oenologist, Stéphane Derenoncourt, known for his work at Larcis Ducasse and Pavie Macquin among many others, is the consulting winemaker. François Rudolf, former merchant navy officer and current owner of Château La Diligente, is passionate about wine and the history of the French navy. This is why he chose to give his wine property the name of the Corvette-Aviso La Diligente which was a beautiful ship 34 m long, built on private plans by naval designer and engineer Pierre Ozanne. It was launched in 1801 and its first trip to the West Indies was so rapid that it was doubted whether it was accomplished. Later, La Diligente would see many successful battles in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. Rudolf likens the name he has chosen to the perilous and more exciting adventure of his investment in winemaking over something easier or more lucrative.
