Craig Handly moved to St. Helena in 1977 fresh out of college in San Diego with a commercial art background and was soon working as a designer with a wine based design company Colonna-Farrel in St. Helena. He later started a design and photography studio, Handly/Hansen that produced Point of Sale materials for Beringer Vineyards and the emerging Kendall-Jackson Winery. Wine label design continued as a large part of the studio work which included numerous Napa Valley boutique wine labels. Craig married a fellow label designer Susan Carpenter who joined the studio where wine label design and their national stationery line, Langhorne Press kept them busy through the 80’s and into the 90’s. In 2000 a realization that a future in wine was on the horizon they changed their focus and started Terroir Napa Valley. Their first vintage, 2001 began with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and blend named Dusty Red. Craig Handly has been the winemaker throughout and makes the Gibbs Estate & Single Vineyard Wines. Upon taking over the operation of family Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in 2012 in St. Helena, Craig Handly has launched the Gibbs brand of wines, named after both his son and father in law who developed the vineyards. The focus is in Estate and in single vineyard wines from within Napa Valley.
