Johan Vineyards is owned by Dag Johan Sundby, a Norwegian immigrant who came to the Williamette Valley in 2004 to establish the 85-acre Johan estate vineyard located in Willamette Valley in Rickreall. Johan’s vineyards are officially Willamette Valley AVA, falling just outside the Eola-Amity Hills demarcation line. The original vineyard was planted in 2001, the winery and first vintage occurred in 2005. All of the wines are made from estate-grown fruit. Winemaker Dan Rinke obtained a bachelor's degree in viticulture from California State University Fresno. He then spent few years at Rhys Vineyards. In 2007, he became the vineyard manager and winemaker at Johan Vineyards. All wines are made in small, hand-crafted batches to insure quality and enjoyment. They produce Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and Vin Gris.
