Certain places around Banja Luka, the second largest city in Bosnia & Herzegovina pretty much resemble the fairy tale vineyards of Italy, France and Spain. One of those places is a home to one of the best vineyards in the country, the winery Jungić. Vinarija Jungić is hidden in the village of Markovac near Čelinac, the Ukrina wine region in the northwestern part of Bosnia & Herzegovina. The vines planted on the slopes of Markovac village cover an area of about 4 hectares, with over 12,000 vines. The owner, Željko Jungić wanted to restore the splendor of his region, the red wines were named “Šikar”, after the area where the vineyard was planted, and the white wines “Balatin”, after the river that springs in the immediate vicinity. Vinarija Jungic is a family run winery and it all started in 2008 when first grapes were planted. Love towards wine is what gave this family strength and motivation to produce supreme quality wines.
